I really like Tildes
Tildes is an alternative psuedo-social media platform that prioritizes thoughtful content.
There are a few attributes that contribute to this.
Plaintext The site is almost all good ole fashioned html and css. There are no moving parts. It doesn't grab your attention. It's black words on a white canvas. All media is linked to. Posts are written in Markdown. This does make the site very, very fast.
Community Moderation With the voting system, there is also a tagging system. Users can mark a post as "Joke, malicious, or exemplary." This directly changes how visible the post is. Unlike other platforms, the most interaction-baiting posts aren't shown first.
Limited Users, Chain of Responsibility Tildes is invite only. You either get invited by a friend or you request an invite from the Reddit. The added benefit is seeing familiar names on the boards that fit your niche. This heavily discourages people from posting malicious things, or inviting malicious people.
If you hate social media and want a return to the old forum style of internet, I think Tildes is for you. See my contact page to message me for an invite.
